CHAPTER FIFTY-FOUR: The Mafia She Didn't See Coming

Casanova Mansion

Karl sat behind his desk.

The divorce papers he had burned weeks ago were still fresh in his memory.

A guard entered.

"Sir."

Karl didn't look up.

"What?"

"We still haven't found her exact apartment."

Karl's jaw tightened.

"Then keep looking."

"Sir—"

"I didn't ask for excuses."

The guard immediately lowered his head.

"Yes, Sir."

Karl stood and walked toward the giant window overlooking the city.

Somewhere in this city, Kavira was living without him.

Working without him.

Smiling without him.

And he hated it.

"Find her."

His voice was cold.

"I don't care how long it takes."

Bethley Group

Kavira entered the office carrying several files.

The moment she entered Viktor Reinhardt's office, she threw a thick folder onto his desk.

THUD.

Viktor looked up.

"What did the folder do to deserve that?"

Kavira crossed her arms.

"I'm sure this company isn't legal."

Viktor smirked.

"What do you mean?"

"I checked the records."

She pointed at the documents.

"Several transactions are suspicious."

"Several shell companies exist only on paper."

"And don't even get me started on the offshore accounts."

Viktor leaned back.

Amused.

"Kavira."

"What?"

"You've been here one month."

"Exactly."

"And now you're our permanent criminal lawyer."

Kavira narrowed her eyes.

"That doesn't mean I'll ignore crimes."

Viktor chuckled.

"You're adorable when you're angry."

"Shut up, Viktor."

"My darling—"

"I'm not your darling."

"That's unfortunate."

Kavira groaned dramatically.

"I don't know if Germany is a country or a giant mafia convention."

Viktor laughed.

"You finally figured it out."

Kavira pointed accusingly.

"You're one too."

Viktor didn't deny it.

Which somehow made it worse.

"You see?"

Kavira said.

"That's exactly the problem!"

Viktor simply smiled.

And that smile worried her more than any answer.

Casanova Hospital

Meanwhile...

For once, Aaron and Divyanka weren't working.

No surgeries.

No emergencies.

No mafia business.

Just a movie night.

They sat on the bed watching a film together.

A romantic scene suddenly appeared on screen.

Divyanka immediately grabbed popcorn.

"These are really good."

Aaron looked at her.

She looked at him.

Silence.

Then she laughed nervously.

"What?"

Aaron smiled.

"You know you're terrible at changing the topic."

Divyanka threw popcorn at him.

He caught it.

They both laughed.

The tension disappeared.

Aaron gently took her hand.

"Divyanka."

"Hm?"

"I'm glad you're here."

For a moment neither spoke.

Then Divyanka rested her head on his shoulder.

And for the first time in a long while, both of them simply enjoyed the quiet.

Three Weeks Later

Courtroom.

Another victory.

Another impossible case won.

Kavira exited the courtroom carrying her files.

Reporters surrounded her.

Questions came from every direction.

She ignored them all.

Outside, Viktor was waiting.

As always.

He handed her a bottle of water.

"You won again."

Kavira took it.

"Of course I did."

Viktor raised an eyebrow.

"Confident."

"It's my job."

She opened the bottle.

"I win."

A sip.

"I always win."

Another sip.

"I love winning."

Viktor laughed.

"There she is."

Kavira narrowed her eyes.

"Why are you smiling?"

"Because you're cute when you're proud."

She almost choked on her water.

"Stop saying things like that."

Viktor smirked.

"No."

Kavira groaned.

"You are exhausting."

Meanwhile — Karl

Karl sat in his office reviewing reports.

Or at least pretending to.

Because every file somehow reminded him of Kavira.

A knock interrupted him.

Aaron entered.

"You look terrible."

"Thank you."

"That wasn't a compliment."

Karl sighed.

Aaron sat down.

"Still thinking about her?"

Karl stared at the desk.

Silence.

Aaron smirked.

"That bad, huh?"

Karl rubbed his forehead.

"I hate Viktor."

Aaron blinked.

"What?"

"I've never met him."

"Then why do you hate him?"

Karl's expression darkened.

"Because he keeps showing up beside her."

Aaron laughed.

"You sound jealous."

Karl looked at him.

"I am."

Friedrich & Damon

Elsewhere...

Friedrich sat at a conference table reviewing plans.

Damon entered.

"You called?"

Friedrich nodded.

"Our enemies are moving again."

Damon became serious immediately.

"Who?"

"The people who funded the attack six months ago."

Damon leaned forward.

"So what do we do?"

Friedrich's eyes darkened.

"We hit them first."

A dangerous silence followed.

Damon smiled slowly.

"There he is."

"The psychopath I know."

Friedrich rolled his eyes.

Damon & Arshia

Later that night.

Arshia sat on the mansion balcony reading.

Damon arrived carrying two cups of coffee.

She smiled.

"Bribery?"

"Absolutely."

He handed one over.

They sat quietly.

Watching city lights.

After a while Arshia spoke.

"You know..."

"Hm?"

"I never expected my life to become this weird."

Damon laughed.

"Same."

She smiled softly.

"No kidnappings."

"No drama."

"No explosions."

"Give it a week," Damon said.

Arshia immediately hit his arm.

"Don't ruin it."

For the first time in months, both of them laughed.

Unaware that Friedrich's new plan was already beginning.

And when it did...

Every relationship would be tested again.
