Soft music played somewhere downstairs in the Mauritius mansion while rain tapped gently against the glass windows. The world outside looked stormy—
but inside their room—
everything was warm.
Safe.
Kavira sat on the kitchen counter wearing one of Karl’s black shirts, sleeves rolled messily to her wrists. Her damp hair fell over one shoulder after her shower.
And for the first time in a long time—
she looked peaceful.
Karl Casanova stood near the coffee machine making her hot chocolate because Aaron had strictly warned him:
“No coffee for her. And absolutely no stress.”
Karl had taken that warning like law.
Kavira watched him quietly.
Then smiled softly.
Karl noticed instantly.
“What?”
She shook her head.
“Nothing.”
“You’re staring.”
“You’re handsome,” she replied casually.
Karl froze for exactly one second.
Then slowly turned toward her.
“What did you just say?”
Kavira laughed softly.
“You heard me.”
Karl walked toward her slowly, placing the mug beside her carefully.
The tension shifted immediately.
Different tonight.
Lighter.
Warmer.
His hands settled on either side of her on the counter, trapping her gently between his arms.
“You’re getting bold these days,” he murmured.
Kavira tilted her head innocently.
“Maybe.”
Karl stared at her quietly.
God.
After everything…
She still looked at him softly.
Still trusted him enough to sit this close.
Still smiled at him like he wasn’t terrifying.
His gaze dropped to her lips unconsciously.
Kavira noticed.
Her breath caught slightly.
Neither of them moved.
The rain outside became louder.
“Kavira,” Karl said quietly.
“Hm?”
“If I kiss you right now…”
His voice had turned rough.
“…will you get scared?”
Her heart skipped painfully.
Not because she was afraid.
Because he asked.
Because this man—who once controlled everything—was now asking permission for even this.
Kavira looked at him silently for a few seconds.
Then slowly—
she placed her hand against his cheek.
“You know,” she whispered softly,
“you’re the first person who ever made me feel safe enough for love.”
Karl’s entire expression changed.
Something emotional.
Raw.
His hand moved carefully to her waist.
Like she was something precious.
“Karl…”
“Hm?”
“You ask for permission now,” she whispered with a tiny smile.
“That’s dangerous.”
He frowned slightly.
“Dangerous?”
“You make it hard not to fall in love with you.”
That was it.
That sentence destroyed whatever control he had left.
Karl leaned in slowly—
giving her time to pull away.
But Kavira moved first.
Her fingers curled into his shirt softly as their lips finally met.
Gentle.
So gentle it almost hurt.
No desperation.
No force.
Just warmth.
Healing.
Karl kissed her like she was something holy.
Like he had waited his entire life for this moment and was terrified of ruining it.
Kavira’s eyes closed instantly.
Her heartbeat raced wildly against her chest.
And Karl immediately pulled back slightly.
“Breathe,” he whispered against her lips automatically.
Kavira laughed softly.
“You ruin romantic moments.”
“You stop breathing during emotional situations.”
“That’s not my fault.”
Karl smiled faintly.
Actually smiled.
The kind that only existed for her.
Then he kissed her again.
Longer this time.
His hand slid carefully into her hair while hers rested against his heartbeat.
And suddenly—
all the pain between them felt far away.
The fear.
The blood.
The shouting.
The trauma.
The nights they slept apart.
Everything.
Gone.
Because after 6 months of surviving each other—
they were finally learning how to love each other.
